We’re partnering with the Vancouver School Board, TransLink, and the Society for Children and Youth of BC (SCY) to continue Kid Commute: A Walking School Bus Program.
A Walking School Bus (WSB) is an organized group of students who walk to and from school together with the support of adult leaders. The group walks along a designated route, stopping along the way to pick up more students. The bus is powered not by an engine, but by foot, by the students themselves as they walk to and from school.
These groups can be:
- Informal with families that choose to walk together to and from school
- Semi-formal with assigned volunteer leaders to coordinate drop-offs and pick-ups
- Formal with volunteer or paid leaders in charge of regular and committed pick-ups and drop-offs

Kid Commute: A Walking School Bus Program
Kid Commute was developed by TransLink and Urban Systems as part of TravelSmart4Kids: TransLink's Regional Travel Strategy for kids 12 and under External website, opens in new tab.
The program is being delivered by the Society for Children and Youth of BC. Since 2021, 9 elementary schools have participated in Vancouver.
