Hastings Street transit improvements

Project goals

  • Keep buses moving smoothly through traffic
  • Provide faster travel times and more reliable bus service for thousands of transit riders
  • Improve transit access to destinations along Hastings
  • Mitigate and balance impacts to parking and loading, where possible

We’re working with TransLink to improve bus service on Hastings Street by extending bus lane hours and improving bus stop spacing.

Buses are scheduled every 90 seconds in the busiest sections of Hastings St and are often delayed by traffic. These upgrades support over 68,000 daily transit trips on routes 14, 16, 20, R5, N35, and many other North Shore and Burnaby routes that run on Hastings St between the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge and Boundary Road.

The project also supports the R2 RapidBus extension between the North Shore and Metrotown launching in 2027.
